The licence is perpetual. Directory keeps working for as long as your tenant does, and no further payment is ever required to carry on using the version you bought.
An optional annual maintenance plan covers updates and compatibility with new SharePoint framework versions. It is charged separately, and choosing not to take it does not affect anything you have already installed.
- Where does the photograph come from?
- The Entra ID profile photo. If a user has none, Directory shows their initials rather than a placeholder silhouette.
- Can we hide accounts that are not real people?
- Yes. Filter on any profile field in the property pane, which is how most tenants exclude shared mailboxes and service accounts.
- How current is the data?
- It is read on page load, so it is as current as Entra ID itself. There is no sync job and nothing to schedule.
- Is search done in the browser or on the server?
- On the server, through the Graph, so a directory of ten thousand people stays fast and the browser never holds the full list.
