A SharePoint Online tenant and an app catalogue. Tabs requests no API permissions at all, so there is nothing for an administrator to approve after the upload.

Tabs hosts web parts rather than replacing them. Anything you can place on a modern page can go inside a tab, including other vendors’ web parts and your own.

Because it holds other web parts, a page using Tabs loads whatever is inside it. A tab containing a heavy report is still a heavy report.

The licence is perpetual. Tabs keeps working for as long as your tenant does, and no further payment is ever required to carry on using the version you bought.

An optional annual maintenance plan covers updates and compatibility with new SharePoint framework versions. It is charged separately, and choosing not to take it does not affect anything you have already installed.

Do the hidden tabs still load?
No. A tab renders when it is first opened, so a page with six tabs loads roughly the weight of one.
Can we link straight to a particular tab?
Yes. Each tab has an address, so a link can open the page with that tab already selected.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. Below a narrow width the tabs become a single list so labels are never truncated.
Does it need any permissions?
None. Tabs is layout only and asks for nothing, which is why there is no approval step in the install.
